‘Sangamam’, is the result of Dr. Padma Subrahmanyam’s pan-Indian view of the integrated culture in which unity of thought and expression has been immanent since time immemorial. She has tried to capture in a capsule, this unique oneness, through this performance which focuses on mutual influences of poets and composers from various linguistic regions, reflecting catholicity, admiration, as well as religious harmony. In this bouquet of poetic flowers, Dr. Padma has gathered those of Muthuswami Dikshithar, Rabindranath Tagore, Kamban, Kashmiri Queen Khaba Khatoon, Dharmapuri Subbarayar, Periazhvar, Tulsidas, Bankim Chandra Chatterjee, Subramanya Bharati and a composition of Dr. Padma herself. The languages included are Sanskrit, Bengali, Malayalam, Tamil, Kashmiri and Telugu. Dr. Padma has used the respective traditional music for the poems apart from one composed by her and another by her nephew B. Kannan.
